Trees across the Midwest face a range of pests and diseases. Knowing what to look for can protect your landscape from decline or even total loss. At AMCO Tree Services, we’re familiar with the most common tree issues in Central Ohio. Here’s how to spot trouble and what we can do to help.
1. Anthracnose
This fungus causes brown, curled leaves and early leaf drop, especially on sycamores, oaks, and ash trees. It thrives in cool, wet springs and can return yearly.
2. Apple Scab
Often seen on crabapples and ornamental apple trees, this fungus causes dark, scabby spots on leaves and fruit, leading to premature leaf loss.
3. Emerald Ash Borer
This metallic green beetle has devastated ash trees throughout Ohio. Tunneling under the bark, it disrupts water flow and quickly kills the tree.
4. Leaf Spot
Red, yellow, or black spots on leaves can come from a variety of fungal infections. While not always fatal, they weaken trees and reduce aesthetic value.
5. Powdery Mildew
This white, chalky coating affects dogwoods, maples, and lilacs. It spreads easily and can reduce flower and leaf development if left untreated.
